The Digital Divide – The Gap in Technological Infrastructure
Communications technology is essential in order for countries to move towards a digital economy. However, there is a correlation between income levels and technological adaptation. The gap between rich, technologically-advanced countries and poor, technologically-depraved countries is called the ‘digital divide’. An Hodgson, income and expenditure manager at Euromonitor, states that wireless technology has helped some poor countries develop their digital infrastructure, but Internet speeds in many developing countries are only suitable for e-mail and light browsing.
