Black Friday, the day after the US holiday Thanksgiving, is the traditional “opening” of the holiday shopping season, conjuring up images of deal-hungry consumers waiting in lines for stores to open early in the morning. In 2011, a few stores opened on midnight on Friday, with results beneficial enough that this year, stores are expected to open even earlier. Walmart is opening on 8pm on Thanksgiving Day. Black Friday is also spreading to other countries, with some Canadian retailers opening early on Friday morning to cash in on the trend and to ensure that Canadian consumers close to the border will spend their money in country.
