Proposed PET Bottle Ban in Russia not Disrupting Sales


The first half of 2012 was an intense time for the Russian packaging industry with the threat of a proposed ban on PET bottles for alcoholic drinks looming. Manufactures of PET bottles protested the ban, with the Russian government citing safety concerns. About half of all beer produced in Russia is sold in plastic bottles, which manufactures say is convenient, cheap, and easy to produce. Despite the claims of the Russian government, sales of alcohol in PET bottles remained substantial in 2012, and the proposed ban was recently overturned.
