Traditionally, stalls and kiosks were a popular retail channel in Russia, but their popularity has declined in recent years due to the expansion of modern retailers and new government restrictions. Kiosks, in particular, face serious pressure from the Russian government, which is taking legislative action to reduce the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. The government moved to restrict sales of beer in kiosks in 2013, and in 2014, the same restrictions will be applied to cigarettes. With these restrictions and the growth of supermarkets, stalls and kiosks may be nearing an end in Russia.
