Mexico’s Energy Reform Means More Jobs and Boost in GDP

In December 2013, Mexico passed new energy reforms allowing private companies to enter the previously monopolized oil and natural gas sectors in the county. This law opens up massive opportunities in Mexico, which according to the US Energy Information Administration ranks fourth in the world in shale gas reserves. These reserves are expected to be targeted first by private companies, along with deep sea oil. Mexico is likely to see a boost in employment and overall GDP due to the new law.
