How Japan’s Tourism Industry Bounced Back from the 2011 Earthquake

The Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent disasters in March of 2011 had devastating effects on Japan as a whole, but also on its inbound tourism. However, Japan’s inbound tourism was able to recover in 2012 due to several processes put in place by the government, including promotion of the country and the speeding up of the visa process. Inbound tourism is expected to continue its growth in the upcoming years, with the resilience of the country signified by Tokyo bidding for the 2020 Olympics.
