Daypart Expansion in Consumer Foodservice

One of the main goals of every foodservice outlet is to keep consumers eating at all times of the day. Daypart expansion has become increasingly popular in many developed markets, but has recently taken off in emerging markets as well. Michael Schaefer, Head of Consumer Foodservice Research at Euromonitor, explains some of the initiatives taken by foodservice outlets in emerging markets to increase consumer traffic at all times of day. For example:

  • Pizza Hut in China has added a tea time menu which includes small snack items and deserts served with tea or coffee
  • Kiosks from many larger brands promoting impulse sales of snacks and deserts
  • Bubble Tea outlets in China selling low-cost drinks
