More consumers are choosing to shop at convenience stores rather than supermarkets in the United Kingdom, states Tahiyya Jurdine, Research Analyst at Euromonitor International. Two reasons for this trend include:

  • The UK is seeing a demographic shift towards smaller households, and single families prefer to shop more frequently and buy less items when they shop.
  • Consumers are spending less during economic hardships, and convenience stores offer only the essentials, limiting wastage of goods
