Although total volume sales of alcoholic drinks in Belarus continue to show decline, per capita consumption is on the rise. Olga Murogova, Research Analyst at Euromonitor, explains this contradiction of the alcoholic drinks market in Belarus. Spirits is the largest alcoholic drinks category in the country; driven by vodka. The average consumption of vodka in Belarus is more than 12 litres per person in 2010 and is expected to remain the same in 2011.
The fastest growing category in alcoholic drinks in Belarus is cider/perry. The segment is relatively new but became popular with female consumers who chose cider to replace beer.
