One of the biggest retailing events in 2015 in Romania was the new, differentiated VAT rate for food products and non-alcoholic drinks, reduced from 24% to 9%, effective from 1 June. Together with other fiscal changes, the first day of 2016 also brought the long-expected reduction in the general VAT rate from 24% to 20%.
