Foodservice is one of the industries that's in the spotlight during the coronavirus pandemic, with global operators either ceasing business altogether or switching to a delivery/takeaway model. This is no easy feat, as delivery is tough to adapt to even in times of economic stability.

For independent, full-service restaurants, things will get extremely bad, with possible closings around 40 per cent in some of the hardest-hit markets. Looking toward the future, we can expect eat-in traffic for most markets significantly declining. Operators who can offer multiple options including takeaway, delivery and those that have retail presence will be better positioned to survive in the near future.
