Datagraphic: The Emerging Middle Class in Latin America
The Latin American market was at one time all about the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) and the wealthy, but increasingly the emerging middle classes are the target segment of choice for investors. Economic growth and stability have helped create a vibrant middle class which is growing faster than the still-important BoP. The number of households earning a disposable income between US$10,000 and US$45,000 (in constant prices) in 2013 reached 87.0 million – an increase of 17.4 million since 2000. At the same time the number earning less than US$10,000 fell by 2.4 million.
