2016 is a slow year for the eyewear industry due to the weakening currency against the US dollar and poor performance in Eastern Europe and Latin America. However, more competition is expected this year due to sunglasses and spectacles becoming lifestyle accessories. With this trend, eyewear retailers are now offering products at lower price points, encouraging consumers to buy more than one pair of spectacles.
