The e-commerce landscape in emerging Asia is extremely dynamic. The young, tech-savvy population, growing disposable income and wider internet connectivity make the region extremely attractive for any online retail business. The tech start-up scene has undergone many changes in the region, helped by a burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit and the availability of venture capital. In some markets, local e-commerce retailers dominate and global players such as Amazon and eBay have made little headway. Despite these advances, local players still face some key challenges, including online shopping being a largely urban phenomenon and a disparity in mobile internet penetration.
