In 2014, the Mexican government implemented a one peso per litre tax on all drinks with added sugar content. Currently, legislators are considering reducing the sugar tax by 50 percent for beverages that come under the sugar content of 5 grams per 100 millilitres. Reactions to this proposition are varied across the board, but overall the impact would be minimal in Mexico as it would only apply to a handful of different brands in flavored bottled water and juice drinks. One of the few carbonates that would be impacted by this potential legislature is Coca-Cola Life, but this product has not made much of an impact in the Mexican soft drinks market.
