Some of the largest foodservice operators in the world are experiencing challenges in 2014. McDonald’s for example, is seeing strategies deployed during the recession failing and Yum! Brands is seeing China’s economy slow down after a recent outlet expansion. Operators expanding into markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and Indonesia, however, are experiencing rapid growth. One such operator is M.H. Alshaya which franchises outlets such as Starbucks, The Cheesecake Factory and Potbelly in the UAE. In 2014, these operator groups will expand in importance, bringing a myriad of consumer foodservice outlets under one operational umbrella in emerging markets.
