The US will lose its position as the world’s number one apparel market to China in 2017, according to Euromonitor research. Although the economic boom in China may be slowing down, Chinese consumer’s appetite for apparel is not, and many companies are responding to this trend. Inditex, owner of Zara and Bershka, will soon open its 500th store in China and Gap has recently opened its first Old Navy store in Shanghai. The market for apparel is so large in China, that any player not focusing on the country is bound to fall behind in the coming years.
