Saudi Arabia is home to one fifth of the world’s oil reserves and a rising GDP but still lags behind in productivity. Unemployment is at 10 percent and strict labour laws prohibit the effective usage of a professional workforce. One bright spot in Saudi Arabia’s productivity is chemical related industries such as fertilizers and plastics. The country has easy access to ammonia, sulfur and natural gas, all of which aid chemical production. Due to this impressive performance, especially in plastics, the country plans to create and launch an automotive industry.
