During the global economic recession, consumers gave up many discretionary items, but consumers never abandoned their mobile phone subscriptions or internet access, states Pavel Marceux, Technology, Media and Communications Contributing Analyst at Euromonitor. In fact, internet subscription increased in every region in the world during the recession. Although it may be easy to label these services as recession proof, Marceux says consumers will cut back on their service plans and speeds. However, telecommunications will not feel the effects of any other recession as much as other industries.
