Vietnam joined the World Trade Organization in 2007, and has since seen its domestic products face competition from cheaper, foreign brands. Therefore, in 2009, the Vietnamese government started a promotional campaign called “Vietnamese use Vietnam Products” to attract citizens to buy local products. The campaign includes educational programs for local manufacturers, media attention for locally produced products and promotions at local stores. In the upcoming years, the Vietnamese government is expected to continue this campaign since it’s been well received by both local players and consumers.
