After 5 difficult years, Tesco has finally announced a review of its struggling US standalone chain, Fresh And Easy. Despite growth of 15% in 2012, a host of other indicators are against the US outpost: market share remains under 1%, turnover is small by Tesco standards, sales per square metre are far lower than comparable developed markets and the chain’s reliance on the small store format limits flexibility.
