    The recent purchase of Caribou Coffee by Joh. A. Benckiser Group adds to the holding company’s coffee empire, which already includes D.E. Master Blenders and Peet’s Coffee and Tea. Jonas Feliciano, Beverages Industry Analyst at Euromonitor, states that these acquisitions are not to compete with coffee chains like Starbucks, but rather to gain a foothold in the premium coffee retail segment. Well-known coffee brands are selling fresh beans in retail outlets, and Joh. A. Benckiser’s recent acquisitions will help the group compete in that segment.
