The channel accounted for more than 50% of all pet care sales in 2010 and has outpaced grocery stores in pet care sales. Pet owners are becoming more indulgent when it comes to products for their pets, buying higher quality goods which only the specialist channels carry. Also, pet owners rely on the staff of pet stores to give them advice and recommendations, something that grocery staff cannot do. Woon compares the three biggest pet specialist stores – Petsmart, Petco, and Fressnapf, giving an overview of growth for each.
