Going Green: Green Week 2017

April saw Euromonitor’s 5th annual global Green Week. The week aims to raise awareness of green issues and encourage staff to think about their behaviours and the environmental impacts that they have. The week takes place in each of our 12 global offices with some really exciting initiatives taking place.

Whilst we were picking trash, a lady approached us and thanked us for our work. It gave us the team so much satisfaction and joy” – commented one volunteer in Tokyo. During Green Week the Tokyo office took part in a litter picking event in their local area – collecting 45kg of rubbish in just 2 hours! Many other offices also took the opportunity to volunteer in their local community. In Santiago, 30 volunteers took part in an initiative to clean up a local park in a deprived area and plant a herb garden in conjunction with two local charities. London volunteers went to Freightliners City Farm in Islington.

Other offices took the opportunity to educate staff and encourage green behaviour. In Bangalore, Dubai and Singapore staff took part in seed-planting activities within the office, while staff in Vilnius visited a local recycling plant. In Chicago, staff were encouraged to use reusable cups and were able to get discounted coffee at a local café as part of the scheme.

The week was also used to run Euromonitor’s biggest ever employee fundraising scheme: The Green Wig Challenge. Staff members in each office sponsored senior management in their office to wear a green wig for the day – the manager with the most donations in each office was the lucky winner! Euromonitor staff were really engaged by the process and gave very generously. Globally £6,600 was raised, which match funded by Euromonitor means £13,200 will be donated to the cause. We have chosen to support the Disasters Emergency Committee’s East Africa famine relief appeal, which means that the donation will be further matched by the UK Government meaning that £26,400 will be given to this amazing cause thanks to the efforts of our staff. Sarah Hunter, CSR Director, commented; “We were overwhelmed by the generous support given by our staff all over the world and are thrilled to be able to support DEC’s appeal with this donation.”
