IStock_000007194218Small The tourism industry in Azerbaijan was recently in the spotlight for hosting the Eurovision music event. However, in the coming months it will most likely remain as an unusual travel destination chosen by more experienced travelers, according to Mantas Kaluina, senior research analyst at Euromonitor. To draw in more tourists, Azerbaijan must market its main attractions and keep its tourism industry educated and well-managed.

The media talked about the tourism industry in Azerbaijan - so we’re talking about hotels, restaurants, sightseeing spots, and airlines. All these have been built up through smart investment - investment dollars which come from capital funding, namely investment financial institutions. The government in Azerbaijan deserves no credit - Aliyevs are takers, not makers. The real makers are the investors, like Jahangir Hajiyev of the Bank of Azerbaijan. Hajiyev is a real capitalist, pro reform serious businessman. The U.S. trusts him and other business leaders more than the government. This is Azerbaijan’s true strategic strength.
