Walgreens opens Flagship Store

Walgreens has just opened a new flagship store in Chicago on State and Randolph. Virginia Lee, senior research analyst at Euromonitor International, discusses how the 27,000 square foot store is unlike any other Walgreens drugstore, with extensive foodservice selections, featuring a sushi station and a juice bar. This new concept featuring a wide selection of specialty cheeses, gourmet salsas, and fresh produce amplifies the trend of US retailers from CVS to Family Dollar to Target expanding their food selections to target the fill-in shopper . The store also has a LOOK Boutique featuring services such as brow shaping and manicures as well as premium beauty brands, which will force other retailers such as CVS and Ulta to examine their strategy for beauty and personal care offerings.
